Social responsibility / sustainability

Social responsibility / sustainability

Since 1995, the Roskilde Airshow Association has been committed to promoting sustainable, top-tier airshows with engaging ground activities. The Roskilde Airshow will continue as a bi-annual event, prioritizing safety and sustainability while delivering exceptional entertainment, excellent value, and a unique experience for all visitors and stakeholders. The event showcases the best of international military and civilian aviation, highlighting skills, technology, and innovation in aviation.

Our commitment to social responsibility
We collaborate with voluntary organizations such as the Veterans' Association, which supports veterans with physical and mental injuries from their service.

Our Commitment to Sustainability
We employ various strategies to achieve our sustainability goals and reduce our carbon footprint. Like many airshow organizations, we are committed to environmental preservation and integrate actions to mitigate adverse environmental impacts into our core operations. While we acknowledge that military aircraft performances and fuel usage contribute to greenhouse gas emissions, all military participants have their own comprehensive climate action plans to account for their emissions. As these are beyond our control, they are not included in our action items.

Environmental Impact and Responsibility
Roskilde Airshow recognizes that its operations impact the environment in several ways. We strive to minimize negative social, environmental, and economic impacts while maintaining the high quality of the airshow and associated ground activities.

Our Commitments

  • • Demonstrating leadership in the airshow event industry and as a member of the European Airshow Council, with a particular focus on sustainable event development.
  • • Complying with and staying updated on all applicable national sustainability requirements and other mandates to which the organization subscribes.
  • • Continuously improving all aspects of the Association's sustainability performance.
  • • Influencing contractors, partners, and the supply chain to enhance their sustainability performance.

Key Sustainability Objectives

  • • Prioritizing the booking of local and national air displays and contractors to reduce fuel consumption.
  • • Enhancing the visitor arrival experience by sharing our sustainability journey and encouraging their participation in achieving our goals.
  • • Encouraging visitors to contribute to waste reduction.
  • • Promoting the use of public transport, shuttle buses, car sharing, and bicycles.
  • • Promoting the use of electric vehicles and providing EV charging stations.
  • • Utilizing only electric vehicles for pilot and crew transport where possible.
  • • Using mains-powered electricity from renewable sources where available.
  • • Increasing visitor exposure to sustainable aviation.
  • • Minimizing single-use plastics from the public groundshow by removing them from public catering and instructing exhibitors and sponsors not to bring single-use plastic freebies/giveaways.
  • • Reducing waste.
  • • Providing additional water refill and recycling points.

Continuous Improvement
We take pride in our proactive approach to sustainability and will continue to take actions to offset the carbon footprint of our bi-annual event. This policy will be reviewed continuously and specifically examined bi-annually, one year before the event.

Who can you meet at Roskilde Airshow?

….as well as some of our partners!

“Through our participation, we can both raise funds for the work with our physically and psychologically vulnerable veterans and raise awareness of the challenges a hard working life can bring in later life. It is therefore absolutely essential for our work that we get the opportunity to get out and show people who we are and what we do. That is why I am incredibly happy that organizations like RAS have again invited us and we look forward to participating.”
